From the looks of comments, I think you have us all thinking and maybe unable to come up with a good answer.
Hate and Detest, I would look at different.
I hate it when it rains my first day at the beach.I hate it when my favorite show is interrupted by the presidents speech.
To detest, goes deeper for me. Detest sin, any sin that carries us away from God. Detest Satan for planting seeds in our hearts causing doubts, fear and forgiveness.
Is this what you were looking for?
So to me, yes, there is a differenct between the two.

It's always rather fascinating to look up word origins, because we tend to distort and skew them through time and use. We sometimes throw the word "hate" around without giving thought to what that means.

I find the definition quite interesting. That makes so much more sense when you think about it scripturally. I like knowing what it really means, not just what I think it means based upon how I choose to use it. Definitely food for thought, Leigh. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Blessings,
Dianne :D
