878 - Why do the bad, terrible things happen!!???

This morning I come with a thought. Not original, I am sure many have thought about it. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 OK - bear with me and Lord Jesus lead my thoughts and then please send others to correct my misinterpretations if need be.

I have come across the belief that God does not bring anything tragic in our lives. I am not with that belief. I believe He allows all things into our lives for various reason: refinement, discipline, glorification of Him, blessing to us, etc. He has great purpose in everything and if He decides to bring disease into my life it is to work for the good. So the disease is not good, but His purpose for allowing it and I might add ordaining it, is good!! Again the disease is not good, but He is good - all the time! All things God works for the good - I think that "the good" means our righteousness not that all things "are" good. If something bad comes to us such as disease that does not mean that it was not from God. He filters everything in my life and decides what will come and what will not. Now yes He desires to bless me and satan only wants to "steal, kill, and destroy" (John 101:10), but that does not mean that God only sends health and prosperity. He will bring those tough things and terrible times even cancer in our lives That is not good, but it works for "the good" which is our glorification of Him thus our righteousness.

Am I making any sense?

Verse 29 states that we are to be formed into His likeness. That means to me that all things that He brings my way serve a purpose of making me look more and more like Him - and that is the good. Will they always do that to me - NO - but that is His purpose...

Well, Lord Jesus - please let me know how i have gone wrong by your people if need be. I am trying to grasp a concept that is really difficult - for me. I don't think we can say flippantly that God will work out everything for our good. He will, but that good may not always be fun and pretty. After all, it is all about Him and not me!

I think the key idea there is if we allow him to show us the good he wants to bring he will bring good out of it. A lot depends on us an our attitude as well
