Dear Lord, What a week. I am ready for hubby to come home today. This summer has been so busy I can hardly stand up! But I have loved every minute of it. In the past I have always been so ready for summer to end and get the kids back in school, but this summer has been so different. With so much baseball and swimming every single morning it has not left much time for anything else. I told Clay the other day I was pleased to be running the kids to all their places instead of me running them to all the places I wanted to go!! What a guilt free summer - thank you Lord.
I have yet to sit down and try to "prove" that the morning is a time to spend quality and quiet time with the Lord. I do know that each and every day we should take time to be still before Him, listen, and read the Word intently. But as far as the the Word saying the morning is a must, I can not prove that. But for me personally I have a strong, strong conviction!
The scripture this morning that has jumped out at me is Ps. 90:14. "Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." This Psalm was written by Moses - the leader of many, many thousands or millions of people. I would think he knew the importance of getting with the Lord first thing in the morning before having to deal with the Israelite people.
This "unfailing love" the Word talks about is the "hesed" love. That is the one that is expected to be reciprocated when it deal with human relationships. (Rahab expected the spies to treat her kindly as she had treated them kindly - this was hesed love.) God has that same expectation, but too often we fall short and that is why His grace is so abundant. Thank you Lord!!!
But I have to go back to the beginning of that verse- "Satisfy us in the morning". Wonder why in the morning - because only He knows what the day holds. It is as if He is loving us with great massive hesed love in hopes that we will return that love and kindness because of HIM - us being satisfied with Him and not so much what He does. If we are satisfied with Him first thing we will not so much care about the days events - whether they went our way or not, but that He has satisfied our hearts first thing with His love, grace, mercy - just HIM!
Oh Lord, as the verse ends of us singing for joy and gladness all our days, may that be my prayer. I want to be satisfied in you and nothing more. I want to be healed by your Word and not by anything else. I want to know Your love and feel your gracious acceptance over my life. As verse 17 of that chapter reads, "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us". Lord, I pray you do establish the work of our hands and teach me how to do it!! Lord, I want to glorify you and none other. I want to be pleased by your presence and none other. Oh Lord, may I give you my best!!!! Father - may my life sing praise to You!! I love you, Lord!
