Going through the motions? Dry spell? Did my husband talk to you? I find myself there way too often. So many of us find ourselves simply putting one foot in front of the other, doing the next thing, heart disengaged. Am I sick? Tired? Or just plain sick AND tired!?! Whether I feel like it or not, the best thing for me is to just get before God and confess it. Sometimes the rain falls quickly and refreshing comes. Other times, I need a sister to pray for me. Funny thing -- in those moments God always whispers, "You will find Me if you seek Me with your whole heart." It may take all day but I have to forcefully push my "Me-Me's" aside -- He always answers!

Yep.. I hear ya today Leigh. I've been there, who hasn't? I tend to feel guilty in the dry spells..so I just have to go to God and ask Him to revive me. I feel like my husband goes through the motions way too much and I don't know what else to do but pray for him. Then there are times, that he seems to be on fire...and then I feel guilty for complaining and nagging..cause I have done that before to him.. I have no right to get on him when I have dry spells too. Its tough! Thanks for what you do.

"Going Through The Motions" Matthew West.
Yes this song spoke to me.I to have gone through the motions too long. I totally understand you saying we do need to go through those motions.
I know I should have daily devotions and have been doing so. But I was going through the motions. I would read, without absorbing, then move on to the rest of my day.
Then one day God spoke so loudly, I could not help but listen.By going through those motions, finally I heard Him speak to me.
Now, I'm allowing my motions to have meaning. Walking a different road that carries my heart closer to God.
You spoke directly to my heart today.
Thanks Leigh.

When I find myself in that position I usually try to figure out if it's something I'm doing or not doing that has caused this to occur in my spiritual life. Most of the time it stems from sin in my life that I'm not being purposeful about resisting or am unaware of it's existence until I stop to think about things. Sin separates us from God, for believers not in a literal sense but it's presence definitely hardens our hearts to the things of the Lord. Sometimes, it's God's way of letting me know that I'm too busy, or am not following Him. Other times I think God allows those periods to happen so that we are constantly reminded that without Him we can do nothing, and must actively rely on His strength and power! Thanks so much for sharing, you're an awesome communicator!

Hey, Leigh! I just wrote in my journal to God about going through the motions- in ministry, parenting, marriage, etc. It is not a joy filled time, but rather an empty feeling time. Heaping guilt and criticism on one self is not helpful. Rather making confession and determination to keep seeking Him in the day I hope to be the answer. It is hard to keep pushing onward when you feel oh, so tired. Maybe I need a vacation to Florida to recreate myself. Thanks for your encouragement!!

Hi Leigh,
I love your thoughts on connecting the heart with the motions. I related most to your elusion to a 'dry spell'. Just this weekend I blogged about how our flesh can look when our soul is 'parched' and to be aware of those signs so we are quick to go to the source of living water to 'rehydrate' our soul. (I've linked my 'parched soul' thoughts to my signature name above) I'm new to your blog, but enjoying the videos very much!!! Am a new fan and have added your linked button to my blog.
